Foreplay, a black comedy in three acts, explores the relationship of an economically well-out but emotionally insecure couple. They take an off-season vacation on a New Age refuse island, supposedly to improve their sex lives. My Italian Wife is a light-hearted, at times tongue-in-cheek, description of the mind-set and preoccupations of second generation Italian immigrants. There is self-mocking wit, flashy dialogue and multi-level insight into the problems confronting the characters. You don't have to be Italian to recognize yourself in them.
BIANCA: “My dearest, asleep, any man is adorable. Sleep infects him with perfection. Or innocence. You can be sure of him. Awake, a man can play with your life like he can play with a paper airplane but, asleep, he can do no such thing. For a distinct moment you are it. With only his dreams to remind him he is alive, with only his dreams to protect him, he is nothing. You can put a gun to his head, pull the trigger, and he won't have the faintest idea who did it.” (from Foreplay)
