The narrator, Anthony, is desperately in love with a young, sexy, married woman. He believes he can win his lady through the ardor and purity of his love. When he imagines she is being threatened, he postures as a gangster, going to her house dressed up with a black Stetson, leather half-gloves, dagger-letter opener in his gaucho belt. His lady is in no such trouble. He is a paramour, sex object, gigolo. Disgusted with himself, Anthony takes the train in broad daylight to Johnny's house. Johnny is the godfather, and the godfather has answers, solutions.
