The Guernica Prize for Literary Fiction – Deadline: Friday April 27, 2018

$1,000 prize and an advance of another $1000 for a publication contract with Guernica Editions for the winner. The jurors will select the best literary fiction novel that pushes the boundaries and is cutting edge.

Each entry must be an unpublished novel of at least 40,000 words. A $50 entry fee (online submission through Submittable only) must accompany each submission. Authors may submit more than one submission. The name of the author should appear nowhere in the submission.

Please name your file your story title or the first three words of the story title if the title is longer than three words. Remember, each entry must be submitted separately online and each requires an entry fee. PLEASE NOTE: The Guernica Prize is open to Canadian citizens and/or residents of Canada only.

A long list of the ten best submissions and a short list of the best five submissions will be announced on the Guernica Editions website and through social media. The announcement of the winner and the awarding of the prize will take place at the 40th anniversary ceremony of Guernica Editions at the International Festival of Authors in October 2018 at Harbourfront in Toronto (details about the award ceremony will be posted on the Guernica Editions website). The names of the jurors for the Guernica prize will only be revealed after the long list is announced.
