Frank Canino
Playwright Frank Canino was born and raised in Chicago but spent most of his life in Canada. He currently resides in Buffalo, NY. His writing projects range from film scripts to musicals and dramas. His writing awards include a full Toronto Arts Council Grant in addition to year-long and short term grants from the Canada Council of the Arts. He has received over 30 awards and citations for his scripts. His plays have been performed/read or workshopped in New York, Toronto, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sarasota, Hartford, and Memphis, and from Long Island to Texas and Alaska and Oklahoma . Several of his short pieces have been produced Off-Off-Broadway by Manhattan Theatre Source/Homogenius Festival, Expanded Arts, Synchronicity Theatre Group, Myriad Arts Festival, Lamia Ink! Festival, and Theatrix Shorts Festival. Toronto productions include the New Ideas Festival, Festival of Original Theatre, and Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. The Angelina Project, published by Guernica Editions in June of 2000, has been produced at University of Hartford, Oklahoma City University, University of Alaska/Anchorage, Chance Theatre, California, Oklahoma City University and over 16 high schools across Texas. Frank has written for the screen through the National Film Board's Video Drama Workshop and was script editor for Pacun Peras Productions for five years. He also co-wrote Looking for Angelina for Platinum Image Film in Toronto, which has been shown in cinemas and at festivals in Canada, Italy and India and received three awards to date, in addition to broadcasts on OMNI Cablevision across Canada and PBS Buffalo/Toronto. It is currently available on DVD. He also co-wrote A Fine Week in Goa for Platinum Image. It won first prize in Wildsound's International Competition in 2010, and is currently in preproduction.
