Wade Bell is a writer whose fiction has appeared in more than 30 literary magazines and anthologies. He is the author of two short story collections published by Guernica: A Destroyer of Compasses and No Place Fit for a Child. He lives in Calgary, Alberta. Reviews of his two Guernica books have appeared in the Globe & Mail, Quill & Quire, Event, The U of Toronto Quarterly, Front & Centre, Prairie Journal and elsewhere. The Globe & Mail (Aug 9, 2003) said of A Destroyer of Compasses that Bell knows Spain as only a confirmed expatriate can, that it is an assured and sensual portrait of a culture and called his stories "gems." The U of Toronto Quarterly (vol 74, no 1) said that the stories steal upon you quietly. They do not seem, on first glance, to be dramatic, and their prose does not call elaborate attention to itself. But both their drama and their expressiveness are powerful. Prairie Journal noted that its observations about the human animal are acute and keenly felt.
